Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida: Head-to-Toe grappling

Entering the first fight between Jones and Machida, many believed that Machida may hold the grappling advantage due to his time with Anderson Silva and being a BJJ Black Belt under Walter Broca. However, following the fight, it was clear that didn't matter.

Jones was able to use his strength and reach advantage to lock in one of the nastiest standing guillotine chokes I've ever seen that nearly had Machida picked up off the ground.

Machida may have the better pure BJJ, but when it comes to all around grappling, Jones is the better man.

Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida: Head-to-Toe wrestling

Jon Jones has a very good wrestling base and uses his wrestling very well.
While during his title run, we've seen more of the striking ability than the wrestling ability, we know it's there and each of his opponents must be aware that he does have an impressive arsenal of slams, throws and trips in his bag of tricks.

I'm very interested in seeing how Jones uses his wrestling against Henderson in September, but no matter, Jones will hold the advantage over Machida.

Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida: Head-to-Toe _Striking

Jon Jones is unpredictable with his strikes. He throws nice jabs and leg kicks and then, can catch you with a spinning back elbow or a side kick to the body. This, along with the fact he has the longest reach in UFC history, makes his strikes very dangerous.
But, when it comes to pure striking ability, besides Anderson Silva, nobody is better than Lyoto Machida.Buy MMA Boxing Gear at Century MMAhref="http://www.hardcoremmagrapplinggloves.com/mma_training_gloves.html" target="_blank">MMA TTRAINING GLOVES
His karate style of MMA makes him even more unpredictable than Jones and once again besides Silva, Machida is possibly the best counter-striker in the UFC.

Last night at UFC on Fox 4, Lyoto Machida knew if he won impressively, he would be the next in line to receive a Light Heavyweight Championship shot. With that said, Machida delivered.
Visit the Official UFC collection at Century MMA "The Dragon" knocked out Ryan Bader early in the second round and will now face the winner of Jon Jones and Dan Henderson sometime likely later this year.
Machida faced Jon Jones for the title back in December and was choked unconscious at the end of the second round.
It wasn't all bad for Machida though, as many figured he won the first round against Jones, becoming the first man to do so.jon jones/ mma fighting gloves
While I'm definitely not looking past the H-Bomb and Henderson, I went ahead and took a closer look at the potential rematch between Jones and Machida. Here is the head-to-toe breakdown of Jones-Machida II.

UFC on FOX 4 Interview: Dana White Puts the Kibosh on Diaz vs Silva

NICK DIAZ, SILVA FIGHTING GLOVES

Last week, Cesar Gracie prepared the MMA world for some major Nick Diaz news. Or, at least, he tried to build it up that way to get everyone excited. People were trying to figure out what Gracie could possibly have to say that would be so groundbreaking.
What ended up being said was a bit of a letdown.NICK DIAZ MMA FIGHTING GLOVES
Gracie, speaking for Diaz, issued a challenge for Anderson Silva. And the crazy thing was that Anderson's management was totally into the idea. Why wouldn't they be? Diaz is super marketable and the fight would be guaranteed to do major business.
Well, apparently not everyone is on board, including UFC president Dana White. Following the UFC on Fox 4 press conference, White spoke with Bleacher Report and attending MMA media, and the topic of Diaz vs. Silva came up.
Like always White went straight to the point.
"Nick Diaz makes no sense. I know that it sounds fun 'YEAH! Throw Nick Diaz in there!' But if you really look at the thing, Nick Diaz just lost to Condit. You know what I mean?" White told Bleacher Report, "at 170 so that gives him the opportunity to move up to 185 and fight the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world? In what f*cking universe does that make sense?"
He summed it up concisely on which fight he'd prefer for Anderson Silva.NICK DIAZ MMA FIGHTING GLOVES
"If you were really going to make a fight like that it would make more sense with George St. Pierre than it would with Diaz. I can tell you this, not theoretically, Diaz and Anderson won't happen."
I can't say I disagree with the UFC boss.
Nick Diaz just doesn't make sense as a viable opponent until he can put together a string of wins in the UFC. Heck, he shouldn't even be in the discussion until his suspension is up.
Until then, let's push for the more realistic fight between GSP and Silva.

Ronda Rousey vs. Steven Seagal? That's Not a Fair Fight

One of my favorite hilarious-yet-annoying stories is the way out-of-shape bad movie actor Steven Seagal has inserted himself into the mixed martial arts world.
This guy—despite being at least 30 years removed from doing anything resembling real martial arts training on a regular basis and having never made a single good movie—is still being written about, talked about and interviewed whenever one of the major Brazilian fighters appears on a card.

Hell, this is at least the third story I've written about Seagal in 2012. If you had told me three years ago I would be spending time writing about the dude from those amazingly bad action flicks in the 90's, I would've laughed in your face. And yet, here we are.
You've heard the story of the alleged confrontation between Gene Lebell and Seagal on a movie set. Long story short, Lebell says he made Seagal crap his pants, quite literally, with a chokehold. Seagal vehemently denied the story on a recent episode of The MMA Hour:

There was never any confrontation with him ever. In any way, shape or form. And I swear to god on my children – and they are the most precious thing in my life – if he is saying that he is a pathological scumbag liar. I keep answering that. Either he made up this lie or someone made it up.

Calling Judo Gene a scumbag isn't the best move. For starters, everyone in the world knows that Judo Gene is, even at his advanced age, one of the baddest men on the planet. He also has a touch of the crazy eyes, which makes me think he would have zero problems just absolutely wrecking someone if they provoked him.
Gene doesn't have to worry about putting his own boots to Seagal, because he's got a young world champion at his side who's ready and quite willing to do that. Check out what Ronda Rousey had to say about Seagal's comments towards her coach:
mma steven segal

Would you ever admit it, A, and B, I mean, obviously the guy's a liar. He told everybody he taught Anderson Silva that kick. I mean, seriously, the guy doesn't have a very good track record.
No, [Steven Seagal is not legit]. "He's Aikido. I mean, Aikido's cool, but who in MMA does Aikido? Who has an Aikido background? 'So and so coming to the cage is a world champion with a background in Aikido.' You never heard that once. Have you heard that once? That's for a reason.
I don't want to give anyone another quote, alright, I'm going to give you another quote. I would beat the crap out of Steven Seagal.
If he says anything bad about Gene to my face, I would be forced to do something. I would have to make him crap his pants a second time

.
I'm going to say this just once and then let it lie: Ronda Rousey would absolutely destroy Steven Seagal. Yes, in a real fight.

Mike Tyson Warns Jon Jones about the Perils of Fame and Fortune

MMA Fight Shorts
Miketysoncourtesyofswallowourwords
If there is anyone in the sporting world most privy to the pitfalls of fame and fortune, then Mike Tyson is your man. The former “Baddest Man on the Planet” has elected to share his personal experience of sporting tragedy with UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones, who himself was recently in a spot of bother.
From Tyson, original quotes reported by Kevin Francis of the Daily Star (h/tBoxingscene.com):
"I had millions of dollars during my life but I didn’t have a support system. I had a bad support system, so I received bad support. Nobody really knows Jon Jones and he is now in a time that is vital to his career. We know him as a great fighter and the way he carriers himself, as a great individual, a humanitarian.
But is he going to let the bright lights and the dark shadows invade his life? Will he be one of those rising meteors that flies through the air and lights the world up, but then dies down in a moment? I hope not.
You live and you learn from mistakes.
Hopefully I can use some of my downfalls to make myself better, make people around me better and show that you can come back from anything."

Since capturing the 205-pound crown at the young age of 23, “Bones” Jones’ rise has been nothing short of meteoric.
Thus far, the Ithaca, N.Y., resident has successfully defended his title on three separate occasions and defeated four former champions in the process.
That said, an inadvertent striking of a Faustian bargain (media) has propelled him fromMMA nonentity to overnight superstar—television appearances and endorsement deals have come aplenty.
mma fighting jones

However, said bargain also has its negative aspects.
For a while he was the darling of the media—he averted a mugging and came to the aid of a mother and her child.
Nevertheless, another side of Jones soon surfaced, which, if only for a short period would turn his goody two-shoes image on its head.
In May of this year, Jones was arrested and charged with a DWI offense after crashing his Bentley into a telephone post. No one was injured, but it could’ve been worse.
Following the above mentioned incident, Jones has more or less stayed out of the media’s spotlight and kept a low profile.

With that in mind, according to recent reports via Yahoo! Sports.com, Jones has now been sentenced for said DWI offense.
He had his driver's license revoked for six-months and was fined $1000. He also incurred a bill of $6,500 for damage to the telephone pole.
With regards to Tyson, at 20, he became the youngest ever heavyweight boxing champion in the history of the sport when he decimated the late Trevor Berbick in two rounds.

In his day, the now 46-year-old was a hell-raiser personified, and as he alluded to, squandered a fortune.
The native Brooklynite’s fall from grace was the culmination of a myriad of incidents, none more so than when he lost his titles to James “Buster” Douglas in February of 1990.
From that point onwards, his life and career spiraled out of control, and he eventually wound up incarcerated for several years on a rape charge.
Tyson, however, has managed to turn his life around, and for the better.
If there ever was a rags to riches and back to scratch story, well, Tyson is it.
Jones is no Tyson for sure, but it would be wise to heed the warnings of sports' most polarizing figure.
Jones is slated to throw hands with Dan Henderson at UFC 151.
